Special scaffolds
Special scaffolds – where standard ends.
Some tasks fit no system: special scaffolds are bespoke builds for unusual geometries, loads and locations – under the same safety rules as any other scaffold type.
Basics
What defines a special scaffold.
Special scaffolds depart from the standard configurations – for example in high-bay warehouses, on complex industrial plant or on listed buildings. The same safety provisions and generally recognised rules of engineering apply as for other scaffold types. Erection must be strictly aligned with the relevant scaffolding standards and the rules of the German employers' liability insurance for the construction industry (DGUV).
Because no standard configuration applies, individual design, structural proof and a careful risk assessment are the rule – not the exception.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Do looser rules apply to special scaffolds?
No – on the contrary. The same safety provisions and recognised rules of engineering apply; with no standard configuration, individual structural design and risk assessment matter all the more.
When is a special scaffold needed?
Whenever geometry, loads or the installation situation deviate from the standard configurations – e.g. in a high-bay warehouse or on complex industrial plant.
